本劇跨越四十年，探索了北愛爾蘭被稱為“動亂”的動蕩時期。以吉恩·麥康維爾的驚人失蹤事件開場，吉恩·麥康維爾是一位十個孩子的單身母親，1972 年在家中被綁架，從此再也沒有人見過她活著。但麥康維爾只是眾多被稱為“失蹤者”的人之一。
